I am Lourdes López, also known as Lulu, I am 59 years old, born and raised in Michoacán, Mexico, a mother of two, and a proud grandmother of three. I am a cook. My passion is cooking great quality and tasty food for family, friends, and customers.
My passion for cooking started in my Mexican hometown, when I used to watch my mom, my aunts, my sisters, my cousins, and my neighbors cooking for special occasions like Christmas, Lent, Día de Muertos, etc. Everything was cooked from scratch and it was so beautiful to see. I cherish those images from my childhood. This is my passion, without any doubt.

What Are Your Accomplishments / What are you proud about?

My greatest accomplishment is to have been able to open five Mexican restaurants in the Bay Area. I am proud of the possibility of creating jobs for many people, in particular for underprivileged communities.
When I arrived in this country, many years ago, I didn’t speak any English. I was lucky to get a job as a babysitter and housekeeper. And during that time, I went to school to learn English. After thirteen years of learning about this country, the language, and adapting to my new reality, I was better prepared to start my business.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person/s who you are grateful for who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?

I worked for ten years with an American family taking care of their three children and occasionally I brought my food there. They liked it and asked if I could cook for them once a week. They loved my food and after a while, and having tasted more and more dishes, my employer kept saying “one day we will open a Mexican restaurant together” and we did it!

I am thankful for this country. This country has allowed me to fulfill my personal goals and professional ambitions.

I feel compelled to promote the personal growth of my workers, I encourage them to get an education and learn the language properly.
